Any program should allow you to set what speed you burn at and won't allow you to set speeds any higher than the drive is capable of. I think IMGBurn shows you the current burn speed as it writes a disk. You could probably simulate a burn to do a benchmark without wasting disks. It's fairly uncommon to see burners working to their full potential.

is there an application that can determine how fast your cd/cd writers or dvd drives are?
all i know about my current burner is its lite-on with a 2mb buffer size lol
im planning on upgrading it to a faster sata one.
