I tried burning serveral CDs, both Audio and Data, using Windows Media Player and Nero7 Ultra Edition. I tried two brands of CDRs and both failed. What gives? If my CD burners part in my DVD Combo drive dead? I don't get it...

Could you post some of the errors your getting, maybe the log if available. And your drive, is it a DVD-Burner, or just DVD-ROM/CD-Burner? If it can burn DVDs, have you tried that?

No I don't have any blank DVDs. The drive in an NEC 3550A drive. The only error it gets is "Can not read CDR. Please insert a new CD into drive E:/"

Its been awhile now and now it doesnt read DVDs, Read CDs, nor burn anything. And XP still recognizes it and says it's working properly..god i hate windows...

Don't blame windows... From the sound of it the drive is bad. Try it using any other OS and it'd still state it's working properly.

The drive sounds like the laser's gone out. Still could be software I suppose, but try to boot to a windows disk or something. If it works, it's definetly software. However, I doubt it will...
