Every time i try to put a cd in my laptop, i find that it makes a slight noise, but does not show itself on my desktop. After a few seconds, it ejects automatically.

when i open my itunes, this also does not register on the screen.

This is strange, as my dvds play very well when i use these.

Can somebody help as i don't know much about computers, and im finding all this all too frustrating. What could be the matter?

That's kind of odd... So bascially any DVD will work, but no CD-ROMs? Hehe, sounds like my hand-me-down PS2(it'll only play PS2 games. No original playstation games, audio disks, video DVDs, etc)

Anyway, I'm not too knolegable about the Powerbooks, but they use a slot loading drive, correct? I don't know if you could find some aftermarket drive to replace it with, if it is in fact bad... There are a few auctions for DVD drives, even some DVD-RWs on ebay for the powerbook. So, I'm sure you could find something, it just may be a bit more than you'd want to pay.

Um... do you have some CD you could boot the mac from? A plain CD, not a DVD. I'm just wondering if it is in fact unable to play CDs or if it's some weird software problem/confict.
