Cd drive problems

ok i have a dell inspiron E1505 and it came with a optical drive that wont burn DVDs. it had a CD-RW/DVD DRIVE MODEL: GCC-4244N. so i got the opitical drive from my toshiba laptop. my old one. it is a DVD-RAM drive Model # UJ -820 and it fits in the laptop and i blinks when i put it in except when i restart my computer is won't show up any ideas if u need more info tell me
 
I hope ur laptop wass turned off when u plugged in the cd rom. check if the connector at the back of the both optical drives are identical.
