as of late my desktop computer will not read and cd burned or software i looked in the device manager and it says everything is running properly. do they just go bad after awhile? it seems to me that the easiest way to fix it is to buy a new one but if anyone knows something that i could try i would just to save me some money. what i have now is an older cdr/w 8x4x32. also if i do decide to get a new one what brand and from what site?

Do you hear the cd spinning when you put the cd in? you dod still see the cdrom in my computer right?

ok try this.. put the cd in say at the angle so it is right side up... close the door.. and when it opens see if the disk has spun in the tray at all.. For example turned upside down...

well thanks for your help when i did that the cd stopped the drive from closing and now it wont close or reopen ill just go buy a new one what do you recommend for and inexpensive drive with a cd burner? color to me doesnt matter i have a white case if the price was right i would get any color im not picky
