CD drives won't work

Can anyone help me please. My pc is brand new, i've built it from scratch. Im having problems with my CD-drives. When i put a cd in either of the drives, it doesn't show up at all, just shows the drives as though there's nothing in them. If I want to be able to use them, I have to uninstall the drives and restart and then they work, but then when my computer restarts again, the problem is back again. I really don't know whats causing it. :confused:

My Spec is:

AMD Athlon XP 3200+
160GB HD 7,2000rpm
1GB DDR400 PC3200
ATi Radeon 9800 SE 256MB
Sony DW-D22A Dual Layer 16X DVD +/-R/RW
Samsung 52x32x52 IDE
 
If you loaded the computer, you must have used an install CD that worked.

Try some different media and see what happens.
