CD/DVD burner problem

I have a DVD/CD device (manufacturer Sony, but it is an OEM device and so Sony won't give me tech support). It reads DVDs fine, but it has suddenly stopped being able to read CD's...in fact, it does not even see them in there.
I've been able to play DVD movies on my computer, but can no longer play music CD's, run CD programs, or even put in a blank CD to burn it, because it does not recognize that there is a CD on the tray.

It worked fine the last time I used it for a CD, which was a few weeks ago.

I ran device manager, which says the device is working properly.

I can't figure out how to troubleshoot this issue.

the only thing you can really do is clean it because the heads might be dirty, and if that doesn't work, just replace it. they are very cheap these days.

Older Dvd burners just start screwing up, my Pioneer 106 dvd burner stops burning past 4X now, im due to replace it. I am yet to tell you when they will fix the problem of dvd burners Conking out
