cd/dvd burners

Hello, I am thinking about upgrading my 2 lite-on drives one is a cdrw/dvd and the other is a cdrw/dvdrw lightscribe. I have had these for about 3-4 years and have been reliable until now. My cdrw/dvdrw drive has stopped recognizing discs which has me debating on replacing both drives. I have seen drives like an LG or Samsung that have faster speeds but i am unsure about there longevity. I am happy with lite-on as long as these have served me but they there speed is lacking compared to Lg, Samsung, or ASUS. Which drive is recommended in the computer world for both speed and reliabilty? I am planning on burning DL DVD's, DVD's, and CD's.

We've recently switched to using the LG drives. Before we were using Lite-On. I haven't noticed any meaningful difference between them In other words, the LG's seem to be doing a perfectly good job. I have the new LG BD drive in one of my personal systems and it seems to be rock solid. I don't have experience with Samsung, sorry, but would have no reason to think they aren't comparable.

The newer, faster drives are most likely just as reliable as older, slower ones. While they haven't been available long enough to know for sure, speed improvements in the past certainly haven't affect reliability in any meaningful way.

I have always used Lite-On drives, but recently on my newest rig went with an asus dvd rom and dvd-rw, and they are excellent drives. LG, Sony, and Samsung drives are also excellent drives.
