CD/DVD Drive Is Empty, Yet Reads Full

Hey all,

I have a Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-841S optical drive. I spent the mornig ripping CDs to iTunes, when progress froze in the middle of a song, but iTunes did not freeze.

iTunes closed normally, and the CD ejected normally. Now, the drive wont read a CD or DVD, and when I look at the properties of the drive, it says the drive is full, but there is no information when I open the drive itsself.

I have rebooted the Toshiba Satellite a couple of times, and have even removed the drivers for the drive, and rebooted again. No change.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Only other thing I can think of is to physically remove the drive, boot up, power down, reinstall the drive, then boot up.

It sounds like you have tried, mostly everything. You could also check for any firmware updates for the drive, or specific drivers, as opposed to windows drivers.

You might try the drive in another computer, but I'm going to guess it's gone. Disc drives usually don't have the very best life, but they're not that expensive either. Just upgrade to a new DVD burner... only around $30.

It's a Toshiba Satellite! It could get a lil expensive.

Well, the optical drive magically started working again... all on its own. Maybe it just wanted to take a break. I dunno.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.
