CD/dvd drive not detected?

I have recently tried to use my dvd burner and when I went to it, it is not appearing. I went to the "fix it" site and it says I have no dvd drive to fix. I have also tried system restore and nothing. I have done many searches on line to try to figure this out and just cannot. Somehow my cd/dvd drive has been deleted. If I insert a cd or dvd it sounds like its going to start up but then nothing happens? I do not know how to get this back. Any advice would be great!

If the dvd rom doesn't appear in device manager then possibly the data cable is loose or bad or you have a bad drive all together. Does it appear in device manager?
 
No it doesnt show up anywhere. I just burned a dvd last month? I have not used it since then. If it was bad, and I put in a cd would it still spin as I can hear it running? I have still not had any luck with this.

Thanks, but i have done all of these and it still does not work. I guess it must just be junk. Thanks for your help.
