Hi All,
I was in the process of making a slipstream disc to combine my winxp with sp2
to allow me to install an OS into another computer when my dvd drive "crashed" When i checked properties everything was said to be operating fine but when i put a cd into the drive nothing registers-even music. I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver but still no cd/dvd. Would what I was doing cause this problem or was it just a coincidence where the dvd/cd gave up the ghost at this time?

Sounds like the lazer quit on you there. The rest of the drive including disk tray can be working fine while not being able to read from or write to any disk when that goes. It likely gave out during the burn explaining the probelms you saw.

Try going into the device manager, find the drive by the drop down list. Right click on it and hit uninstall. Reboot and let windows redetect the drive and see if it works.
