Cd writer problem

Hi recently my CD-writer stoped reading/burning cd/dvd's . I am sure i have installed all drivers (not sure if that needs one though) but i still cant open CD
Any idea what is wrong? I am using a ACER laptop

Check in "my computer" to see if there is a cd/dvd icon in there. If not, then it seems your registry has been corrupted and we can fix that.
