hi...

I did go with my laptop on holiday to africa......then i tried to copy an audio cd to my computer and suddenly it hanged, my first thoughts were the voltage difference but since then i cant use or view my cd drive, neither in "my computer, device manager or in the bios"...the drive can eject and i can view the green light....i have tried to reinstall the software afresh but still the problem is not solved, .... does this means the drive is dead ?

i will highly appreciate any information.

It might be dead, but then again it may just be dirty.

Most laptops allow you to remove the 5.25" drive bay, some require you remove a screw and some just push a button and pop out. Try removing yours and cleaning it. Use 98% isopropyl alcohol on the connections to rid them of dust/dirt, etc. Cleaning it all out may fix it.
