When going to burn data onto a cd-r, cd+r, dvd-r, or dvd+r the software will place a load on the cpu time. Having too many things running at once could be seeing one program clashing with another. It never hurts to run antivirus and other removers to see if something got onto your system. But this can also be a software problem.
One recommendation right off would to be to reduce the number of things that load along with Windows with the msconfig utility or use the task manger to end the non MS processes running when going to burn a disk. You might even have to reinstall or upgrade the burning software if not go with another one to see better results.
