cdrw program not recognising cd drive

I have recently changed my hard drive. I have installed Easy CD Creator 4. I have Atapi CDRW52X32 Drive. When I try to burn a CD a message is displayed 'no supported cdrw drive'....please help if you can. Thanks
 
Do you have ready access to the drive through Windows Explorer or MyComputer otherwise? If you have the drive's jumper set at cable select rather then master or slave that might cause a problem with the older version of Roxio's writing software or the drive is too new for that version. It most likely will be a software glitch where a file wasn't copied to drive fully by the installer or you simply had a bad nstall.
The Easy CD Creator 8 has some problems of it's own at times when it duplicates the TDriver.exe in the task manager when it locked up. You had to end process several times or reboot to free things up. I can readily suspect that you have a software configuration error causing this with Easy CD not detecting the drive properly. You could try a removal and reinstall to see if it will then detect the drive properly. For cd-rs I've seen far better results with a program called B's Recorder that easily detects the drives installed. But until I get the latest version I'm stuck with $100- Roxio nightmare for data dvd burns. NERO is far more popular there. See if you can grab an update before a reinstall however to try that out.
 
Thanks for your reply. I am a beginner with computers and I just tend to follow the instructions that come with the installation disc. I will try re-installing the software.
 
That would probably see a correction if something went bad on the initial installation there. With a drive known to be good it usually turns out to be a goof in the installation itself where something is partially or not even copied to the drive from the cd. Look over the cd itself for any finger marks or scratches from handling. Hopefully you didn't get a bad disk that won't install fully due to factory defect. I will be giving DeepBurner(freeware) a try to see how well that does when burning the next data dvd to backup a variety of files including bios updates for a new board put in. Roxio wasn't reinstalled after the old board forced a reinstallation of Windows while seeing how the board runs. Make sure you delete any leftover folders when first removing it so you have a fresh start with no clutter. Let's see how it goes then.
 
Thanks for your help. I have tried re-installing the software but I still have the same problem. I will try contacting Adaptec to see if they can help.
 
I didn't have any luck with adaptec. I suppose the version 4.0 is quite old. I have had it for a few years now. Anyway I have got hold of a copy of nero and I am going to use that instead. Thanks to everyone who tried to help.:)
 
I'll be trying DeepBurner here to see if the freeware is as good as some say for the type of data dvds used for backups here. But I quite often hear some favor NERO. Hope that works out for you and it doesn't turn out to be the drive itself.
