CD's not being recognised by my drive

Hey,
there are some discs that my drive does not detect : it detects something in the drive but no data shows up, the discs work on other computers
My drive handled such discs before, maybe it's the actual format of the disc - i'm not sure
It could also be my drivers...
My drive is a RICOH mp5308d, 8x (ya i know pretty old, but it gets the job done)
My drive is compatible with all disc types so y isn't it working...(!)
Can someone plz help me fix this problem?

first we need to deternin if it is the drive or windows

get a bootable cd such as windows xp
set your pc's bios to boot from the cd drive
put the xp cd in and restart your pc
NOTE Do not install xp, just see if the pc starts to boot, you may see "press a key to boot from the cd" press a key, once xp starts to load take out the cd and shut down

if it does not boot from a cd , the cd drive may be borked.

while you are in the bios make sure the cd drive is showing up there.

also try your cd drive in safe mode.

Thx

Ya but it's only certain discs, the same brand and type work on my drive, it's just these few
I know they're not screwed

And wot does my windows booting have to do with this?

But thx u have enlightened me about safe mode

yet no dice
