Celeron D 2.8ghz to a Sempron 2800+, how much preformace change?

I currently have a Intel Celeron D 2.8Ghz, with a SYP4VTE mothebored, i was actully thinking about puting one of my old motherbored and getting a socket A Sempron 2600+ or something, since my duron was just as well as the celron that had to be beter...

In a MicroCenter Ad(which ussaly have horrid , or great prices) there was a CPU/MOBO compo, for a

AMD Sempron 2800+ 1.6Ghz, 1600Mhz System bus speed and 256l2 cache, 754 pin.

AND

integrated 64MB shared video.(prabally wont use since my card praabally is bettr, but i seroisly wouldn't me suprised if it beat my Mx440)


So, how much a a preformace change would I see? I assume better definatly, and i this is mainly for gaming.

Also another question, whats the best socket 754 CPU on the market and how does that compare to the Sempron 2800+? I'd like to know for how upgradable it would be on the CPU part, and No, im not going to get a socket 939 beucase you tell be that would be more upgradable.
 
theres a great performance change, i have the sempron 2800+ and i've also had a celeron D 2.4Ghz, and the celeron sucked! The sempron plays games great! better then my P4 3Ghz, all games at highest settings. Deffinitly much better then the celeron.
 
ur sempron plays games better than ur p4 3.0ghz. there has to be something behind that, like more ram or a better video card with the sempron. The sempron is hte celerons rival which dont compare to a pentium 4

mmmm, for some reason a model with a 1600Mhz FSB doesn't seem to "exist", yet it says so on the ad...I wonder if its a misprint, Geofft, do you have the 754 one? and if so what core and what is the FSB?

no, i had the P4 3Ghz in the family comp, with the same ram, video card, and sound card. ANd i got a score of around 3500 with 3dmark03. Now the only thing that changed is trhe cpu and mobo, and i get a score of 4032. And with my P4 i couldnt play halo or hl2 on max resolution. But the P4 was better for multi-tasking... obviously.
