CF Suggestions

This is related more towards the admins.

After visiting some other forums, they have sections for forum "games", such as the never ending story, CTRL+V, the person above me, ect.

My suggestion is to make a section dedicated to forum games that will not reaise your post count, this way people can post whatever they want there, but there post count wont be raised. And the "off-topic chat" could also be non-counting.

YEA!!!! cus then i won't be so P.O.ed at cus half my posts are from the Off Topic chat! lol
like mebbe just make it so the off topic chat won't rais ur post count or something

that sounds like a good idea, or would it be possible to block the off topic chat section until you are a silver/gold member, that way there would be no reason for you to want to raise your post count, and could possibly cut down on the amount of spam

I like my idea better, theres no reason why certain members shouldnt be able to post there, i think they should just be "not counting" areas.

XTF :P

I suppose, if you put it like that, either way i think the off topic and general needs to be HEAVILY moderated

ok discussion have been held/some on going on your suggestions.

Firstly thank you for your suggestion omega, its always good to hear new ideas, and they are always given there due attention.

Believe it or not we have discussed a lot of these before in the mod/admin section, and therefore have standing policy on many of them.

1. Regarding the limiting of posting in off topic unless you have XXX number of posts:

To be honest this is not feasible, it would require far to much moderation, as the computers for sale section does now. It would also have the dual effect of stifling new members wishing to join in the since of community.

And remember; at the end of the day the post count doesn’t really mean all that much.

2. Regarding the idea that post in off topic should not count:

This was discussed sometime ago and both praetor and Ian made the decision for all posts in all sections to count. I don’t see that the situation has changed enough for them reproach that decision at this time.

3. Regarding the establishment of a games section:

This option is still being discussed and is awaiting a final decision by Ian. Most likely if implemented it would take the form of a sub section within off topic.

1. and 2. I agree with what apj101 said

3. Regarding the establishment of a games section:

I dont think I will implement a games section like the one mentioned. I would eventually like to see the site one day have a stronger computer game focus though, as in xbox, playstation, pc games etc.

This is not so much an idea, just a thought...

Alot of these off topic (game) threads are try this game post your score...from what i have seen (the more popular ones with big responce).

To me it would make more sence to host the flash game and not have reply just a ranking on that game.

Requires no moderation as there isnt someone to offend just a score to beat. :)

EDIT:although i know this could possibly goto endless game lists and requests to add games, Surely a selected few good free games would create more of a fun side to a community such as a forum. :)

CF.com is one off the most professional computer forums around and I feel it is missing one or two key sections and I think that sub sections would be a good idea eg web design section in the internet section!

Games would just turn the forum into a bigger playground than it already is! I really disagree with there being any games!
Or it would focus all the "nonsense" into that section, and keep it away from the rest of the threads.

There already is a Internet Discussion board that should cover this. But that might be something to consider if there's enough traffic to warrant the adjustment...

I think the games idea is good, and that it shouldnt count towards your post count. I have also seen it on many other forums.

I have noticed that on this forum, people here are very mature and knowledgable (spelt wrong). I dont think the games section would have a very big turn out.
