Hi,
I have a media center i use in the lounge for music and films. the motherboard is the Asus M4A78-VM 3.0GHZ with a Dual Core Athlon64 Processor. It's developed a fault and told it's not viable to repair. The question is do i buy another board of the same type or can anyone recommend an alternative bearing in mind it has very good reviews although i've had nothing but trouble with it over the past 3 months and the shop i bought it from has gone bump!
many thanks in advance.

i think any board would do the same thing. just make sure it will house your cpu and memory and stuff unless you want everything new.. and fit into your case. the software is what makes it the media center. (we are talking about hp right? and im assuming its xp mediacenter, because i just sold one on ebay, but slower.)

What kind of fault are we talking about? If you buy a new motherboard, you should buy one of the same series, M4A78 So that you wouldn't have to reinstall windows.

I think there is a lot of issues with the software to make it crash or freeze, i'm using windows 7 but have tried vista and both still crash, these are probably driver problems which can be rectified. if i have the computer on i might be lucky and have no problems with it all day. other times i can run it and suddenly it will crash and show a blue screen saying it's a hardware problem, it reboots and works fine agaiin but i could never rely on it to work steadily to record a tv programme or listen to music etc.

Giving us the info from the blue screens would help us determine what could be causing the issue. I'm assuming a driver or hardware issue.

did this all start occuring after you flashed your bios? or maybe you need to flash them, whatcha think johnny

Many thanks for everyone's help, much appreciated.I'll have to wait for it to crash again to get the blue screen before i can pass on the information.
