I did a complete clean out of XP and installed Vista. Everything is great except one thing...

The dam PC will not shut down, it only restarts, and today is the fourth day of 24 hr running.

I have always shut a PC down since I had my first Commodore 64, then the 128, then the super fast 4.77mhz pc, then I stepped up to the 12mhz, wow I was flying.

Enough about me since I retired 10 yeats ago.

XP was OK, I already don't like Vista

What is the trick to a complete shutdown besides unplug?

Found this though a Google search. This is from a Vista Forum, and it may be what your are looking for. "I might know why it is not shutting down. When you get this, usually it's because of a driver hanging. Type "reliability monitor" in the search box - You'll be able to use that to see what kinds of errors you are getting. Also Device Manager will tell you if there's something that's having troubles.

The other thing may be spyware/adware - Clean it if you can.

When all else fails, you can force the comp to shut down by typing: shutdown /f in the search box."
