changing desktop Icons ?

how do u change them, ive tried going to right clicking an icon>properties>customize>change icon. but i cant find the picture i want as the icon for the folder

help please
 
Well that is generally how it's done, but you are limited to the inbuilt icons that you see listed. If you want to get any better looking icons, then you will need software such as iconpackager by Stardock. Then you can browse from thousands of icons on sites such as wincustomize or deviant art. :)

well i downloaded a picture of Microsoft Office logo, and i want to post that as the picture instead of a folder , so theres no way i can just substitute the folder pic for the Logo ??? like instead of using a program ?
 
Try clicking browse and load the directory that you have the picture in, and select it if it appears.

If it doesn't, this might be because it's the wrong file type. For example I'm not sure if you can use .jpg or .bmp for an icon, or whether some other dedicated file type is needed. If that's the case you might be able to convert it.

Otherwise I think that a program such as iconpackager would be the only option. I'm sure there are some free ones out there though as well. ?
 
ya i was taking a look at iconpackager, its only a 30 day trial i think it said, but ill ur method first , thanks
