Changing DPI in OSX?

Is it possible? My friend has his mac mini on his 1080p tv and when it's set at 1080p everything looks tiny, so he has to set it to 720p which looks kinda crappy. I did a google search and came up with some hack job ways of gettin it to work but they sounded pretty crappy..

So..any decent working solutions?

I'd figured this would be built in by now..

You mean the ease of access zoom?

No, that's way too shoddy. There's nothing worse than having to scroll around a pixelated screen. Ideally it would be like the windows 7 DPI feature, where writing is bigger without sacrificing resolution.

With all the really high res screens out there it seems like a pretty crappy idea to leave that out...

I did find out it was supposed to be in snow leopard but was dropped, which was pretty funny cause the guy who was saying that was also bashing windows for not even trying to support this, which now in 7 it scales absolutely everything. Fanboys

But doesn't that strictly change the icon size? What about toolbar text, app text, and really text in general? Pretty much i want the same effect as turning down the resolution without sacrificing the quality caused by such

in my office I have a 44" plasma TV and a Mac Mini hooked up to it, I don't have any problem reading text. Not sure exactly the problem is with your set up. When I am back in my office I can fire it up and take a peak at it.

Probly cause we don't sit up right close to it. Is your tv 720p or 1080p? It's 1080p that's tiny, but we set it to 720p so we can read text.

I don't either, it is about 10 to 12 feet from my desk. Mine works fine. Maybe I did something to it not sure. I will check when I head back into work next week
