Changing from Vista to XP

I have vista on my pc. I only have one gig of ram. I'd like to remove vista and add xp. I'm in college and majoring in music production/recording. I need my computer to be faster so i can use recording software properly. The only problem is I can't afford to buy xp or more ram. Is there a place I can download xp sp3 for free?

Also i know it's a pain finding all the drivers and such, so any help would be appreciated.

You have to buy Windows XP, there is no way around it....and RAM is cheaper than windows XP (you can get a 1GB stick for dirt cheap, usually under $15). If you want, you could try the Windows 7 Beta, it works fine for a Beta OS and it is faster than Vista on most , if you don't like it, you could always reinstall Vista.

I've been recording music for many years and never had issues with recording speed, even way back to the 486, 4 megabyte RAM era. Are you discussing editing video? that does take a lot of capacity, sound alone does not.

I should add that there is a wealth of high quality freeware for linux, an option that should be considered by a College student on a limited budget. see http://www.linuxrsp.ru/win-lin-soft/table-eng.html

Linux is great, don't get me wrong, but for someone majoring in music production it's not the best option.

Anyway, legally, the only way you can get XP is by buying it... you can get XP Home, which should work just fine for you for $90 off Newegg.com. :)
