Changing HDD

So I'm upgrading m comp (see this thread: http://www.computerforum.com/119600-upgrade.html) and am getting a new HDD.

Last time I built a rig, my HDD had cr@pped out on me, so I didn't really need to transfer files.

So, I want to get everything up and running with a minimum of fuss, so my plan is to:1) install new HDD and OS, 2) Update OS and install software to the new HDD, etc. then 3) Put old HDD in as a second (slave) drive and transfer files from there.

What I really want to do is transfer most of the files from the second drive, then erase most of the files use it as a song and pic drive.

My question: Is this going to cause problems with the OS being on 2 HDDs at once? I can adjust the boot sequence so that the new drive is bootable and the second is not correct?

If my plan is bad (which it may well be), I am open to suggestions.

Thanks,
Peter

^^ Yup Then when all done just format the second drive inside of windows by right clicking on "computer" and click "manage" and go to "disk management" then find the drive and format it. NOTE: You can change the drive letter and path at that time. You most likely want it as the D drive as the Main is C

boot order needs to be correct in bios. the one you want to boot goes before the other. i'd preferably leave the non-booting drive (with the exception of the cd boot drive) out

and if you're using PATA the jumpers have to be correct or else your computer won't even recognize the drives.
