Ok so long story short my motherboard fried on my main PC and im finally getting around to ordering a new one and I'm just wondering what to expect when I swap them out since I've never changed only a motherboard.

In case it matters:
(old mobo) Abit IP-95 Socket 775 Intel Chipset G31
(new mobo) Gigabyte G31M-ES2L M Socket 775 Intel Chipset G31
(rest is what I already have and am reusing)
Intel Pentium D 3.2 Ghz Dual Core
Windows XP Pro
4 Ghz Kingston DDR2 RAM

If theres any other info I need to supply let me know.

Your going to have to reinstall windows as it's new hardware and Windows won't be able to boot. You'll need to back up your data first of course.

I was told I wouldn't need to since I'm using the same chipset/processor with WinXP?

No real way to back anything up since it won't boot right now.
