I booted up my computer and I got a message saying my chassis fan was too slow? it ask to do the bio thing or ignore. I just ignored seeing I have no clue what to do on the bio screen. I have a sony vaio...any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Your bios probably has a preset threshhold for a minmum fan speed. Refer to the user's manual for onboard features in the bios. If it is adjustable you could either lower the minimum speed required or disable the alert. Make sure your fans aren't clogged with dust and dirt.

Agreed...many bios' come with the fans set to go rather slow. That or sometimes fan just go slower than motherboards expect. My previous CPU fan would set the alarm off now and then because it's max speed was only 1600RPMs.

Or, of the fan in the system's old, it might just be getting worn out. They are very easy to remove and replace. It might be worth just popping the case open and see if the fan feels stiff. If so, take it out and see if your local computer/electronic shops have any replacements.

Several retail outlets carry both 80mm and 120mm fans. A good deal of those are led fans. Need to dress up a case a little while finding a replacement? Also when looking inside see what type of connector is used. That should give you an idea of the voltage it uses. Some have only 3pin connectors while others have 4pin. And others have the 3/4pin combo.

Ya if that ends up being the case, or if could be the fact that a case fan isn't plugged into the motherboard, I don't run any case fans through my mobo mainly for the fact I have a fan controller and my other fans are 4 pin molex so they don't fit anyway, even my cpu fan isn't plugged into my mobo so I always get the fan error until I turn it off. But like pc eye said if you do end replacing a fan then if you want it to go through the mobo your gonna need a 3 pin.

I can't say that all cpu fans with controllers don't connect to the board. The Zalman CNS9500 here has the controller inline to the board. You have to stick the controller outside on the rear or top of the case with a glue pad. The fans with the 3/4pin combo would be the best for connecting direct. You won't see any one pin short goofs there.
