Cheap Gaming Computer Tips

Hey guys,

I am looking to buy a new pc to play intense games on, like doom 3, quake 4, etc... I am considering buying a computer I found on cyberpowerpc.com for $642 which includes the following...

MSI 915P Combo Motherboard Socket775 PCI Express
Pentium 4 630 CPU w/ HT Technology - 3.0GHz
1 GB (DDR2) - Cosair Value Select
ATI Radeon X300 SE 128MB 16x PCI Express Video Card
160GB 7200RPM Hitachi Hard drive

Please let me know what you guys think of this and what areas or parts would you swap out or recommend while still keeping the overall cost relatively low. Thanks in advanced for your help!

seems decent enough to play all the new games on, but low settings until you can upgrade that video card. x300 is budget, so it will play the games, just not all neat and pretty

I think 1. you should get a higher/newer socket. and AMD "generaly" beats INTEL at amd, so you could get a amd CPU instead on a 939 mobo.

I would at least get a higher socket at least.

What are you talking about, a intel chip on a s939 mobo? thats bs....do you mean get a AMD chip on a s939?

If everything else is ok besides the video card, what video cards would you guys suggest that is still within a low price range (lets say under $150)?

If there is anything else besides the video card please let me know what you would change. Thanks!

no, i ment generally, because a amd furon 800mhz will not be better for gaming then a P4 3.6ghz :) and yeah i ment a AMD on a 939 bored, sorry about that.

I agree, go with an AMD rather than an Intel - they are generally better for gaming. As for a video card, I would recommend a 6600GT, although you may be able to get a 6800 for under $150.

I would strongly suggest you post this in the Desktop Computers forum, i'm sure you'll have much more luck there.

yes amd beats intel, but can he get a complete system for that price, and then put it together, and then troubleshoot it when something doesnt work?

hey man, im assuming that the pc has pci-e, as i think that's all the x300 comes as, so pci-e you can get a 6600gt and be just fine
