CHEAP Laptop

A friend of mine wants a cheap laptop (preferably under $500, can go a little over). I don't know much about laptops, but I looked around, and this seems to be the thing I can find: LINK. He'll be using the laptop for [extremely light] gaming, web browsing, watching movies, etc.

If you guys could give me a few tips/suggestions, or recommend certain laptops that'd be great. He wants no less than 120Gb of HDD space, and 2Gb of RAM.

Thanks.

Thats your best bet. It was rare to find a good laptop with those specs and price. Im not too sure on the brand. Acer is one of the cheap brands.

good luck with those specs.

Dell has some great deals on Vostro. For $579 you can get this which exceeds your buddies specs.

Actually I stand corrected.

Dell has this vostro for $499 which meets his specs. Its a AMD vs INtel thing. For me I would go with the $579 Intel,,but thats me.It will run cooler.

I bought an Acer Aspire 4315 a couple weeks ago for $399 at Staples. It has a Celeron M 1.86Ghz CPU, 1GB DDR2, 256MB X3100, 120GB HD, DVD Burner, 802.11b/g, 14.1".

I'm actually surprised at how well this laptop performs, the Celeron M's are actually nice budget processors (way better then Celeron D's), and you could upgrade to 2GB of RAM for under $40. I would say wait and try to find a great deal in the Sunday fliers.

at office depot:

ideaPad Y510 notebook computer with 15.4-in. Vibrantview Widescreen. Intel Pentium Dual Core T2330 processor, 2GB DDR2 memory, 250GB hard drive, Dual layer DVD +-RW drive. 802.11a/b/g WLAN. Webcam, VeriFace Facial Recognition software. Vista Home Premium

the only problem is..... price after $185 mail in rebate and $35 instant savings.

if your friend is ok with the price (after rebate) then i'd go for it. lenovo makes good quality stuff.
