My mom wants a laptop. just with very basic stuff. she wants it to play shockwave games and browse the net. So, she wont need any kind of good video card. mmm, she wants it to have wireless capabilities, and a dvd burner.
so besides the burner, she doesnt need anything on it to be state of the art stuff....any help?

Sounds like any cheap laptop will do. You will be hard pushed to find a new laptop which doesn't have wireless and a DVD burner. I would advise you to stay away from 'shop brands', eg in the UK, PC World laptops are called 'Advent', and they tend to break a lot sooner than 'proper' manufactures, say Dell.

Try the Toshiba L305-S5917. My wife uses this laptop for school (MS Office 2007), online games, internet browsing, email, Photoshop (Cs3 Extended), etc. It has yet to hiccup or slow down on her. The RAM usage is usually under 600MB, and the cpu usage is usually under 40%, even when running multiple applications.

It's surprisingly snappy, especially for only having 1GB of RAM, but that's easily upgraded for cheap if you want more.

I would go with a hp dv5z. There cheap with good quality parts. Plus if you go through there site you can usually get free upgrades on HDD and memory. And there tech support is pretty good to.
