I was considering building a cheap computer to get me by. I know that Bulldozer will be out sometime soon but I'm in need of a new PC. I was thinking of pairing it with a cheap Athlon II 250/255 and maybe a cheap graphics card.

What do you guys think?

I was thinking that too, but I don't see anything wrong with using something that is nvidia based. How expensive are 770 and 785G boards?

I'm running one of my older computers close to what you're talking about. Can run anything right now. SC2 is a bit sluggish due to the onboard graphics; but I just tested it to see if it would even run it. Runs SC2 perfect at full settings with an nVidia 9600 GT. Runs 720p, 1080i, w/e. with onboard graphics perfectly.

Asus M4A785-M with onboard ATI HD 4200, AMD Athlon 64 6000+ 3.0 GHz stock speed, 2 GB of RAM, and a 600 watt PSU.

So I'm sure what you're talking of building will run fine for at least a few more years.

Do it.

Okay, with that out of the way I need to find a decent board.

I was looking at this one: ASUS M4268T-M V2

It is only 4-Phase power and has two RAM slots, but I don't think that will be a problem. I don't plan to overclock anyways. Another thing that MIGHT be a con is the fact that there are only four SATA 3.0GB/s connectors, but I will use at most two drives and a burner.

I was also considering 785G based AMD boards- Do the prices on those get this low? How is the HD 4200 IGP Compared to the 7025 IGP?

I apologize for being impatient but the PSU on my main machine just died so I will need this rather soon, and I don't know what kind of motherboard to use. Opinions?

That seems like a good board for what you're talking about. I would probably spend about $50 more on a board more similar to the board that I posted. It's a bit more future proof.

If your just looking for a cheaper AM3/DDR3 board to hold you over, go for a little newer chipset. Not a big fan of biostar, but if your not going to be doing any extreme overclocking it will be just fine.

Just go for the biostar. As consumers, we have to take risks sometimes, even if it's not the most prestigious brand.
