im planning on building a custom system for my first time. I want a fast high quality comp nothin fancy just enough for moderate gaming (counterstrike). one problem, i dont have much money to spend. so far im thinking of a Shuttle AK32VN 266MHz DDR Socket A Motherboard and AMD Athlon XP 2200+ Processor:

is that smart? is there anything bether for slightly more or less? I would also like to know any suggestions on other components.

-thanx for any help you can give :)

I have used this Mobo A7N8X Deluxe before, Very much satisfying performance. as I change my system every 6th month (not this time at least), but I have been with A7N8X for a longer time, as if was so much satisfying.

and as well buy a Deluxe Version, comes with sound storm audio controller. i didnt found myself in need of sound card when I was using it, the moment I switched to Asus's Intel based mobo (ADI Sound Chip), I have to order Creative Audigy extra.

buy a good motherboard and good ram, thats it.

The A7V is significantly cheaper than the A7N and for regular users not interested in OCing and stuff, more than good enough :)

Huh? You should be able to get the A7V for $50USD or so and something like an XP2500 for roughly $90USD .. not a bad deal really. If you want the older ThroughbredA (i.e., XP2200) you should be able to get it for roughly $75USD but you're much better off with the newer Barton-2500 for $15USD more :)
