Cheap vid card for cheap comp

My friend has a really old comp that I want to buy a graphics card for so he can play some RTS games with me, (mainly Rise of Nations).
He had an old nVidia Vanta (some POS 8mb card)
I dug through the junk comps at schookl and got him an nVidia Riva TNT2 32mb. It plays RoN fine but he gave me $30 to get him a card that would run smooth on all the games he has (he has really old games).
I was think either the name-brand nVidia MX4000 or the never-heard-of XGI Volari V3. The specs on the Volari are all better than the MX4000 but I still cant get over the fact that I've never heard of it...
here are the links:
Volari: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814270001
MX4000: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814141009

Any suggestions?

Yeah, but that's about all it's got on it's side... Specs wise, the other card is better. I looked around some, and you can also get a Radeon 9200 for about the same price, which is about the same level as those cards.

I beleive all in all, the Volari is the best, but none are really 'good' :P

The FX5200 isn't good, but it is better than either of the aforementioned cards. My friend can play RoN on high settings with it.

I would go with the 4000, I have one...its OK in some games.

It has a higher core clock, and all the reviews are better.

(With some games I mean, I get 40 fps in half life 2 with everything medium)

but does it have the same amount of pixelpipelines? (if they had such a thing way back when)

The 5200 might be a bit better than that Volari... It has a bit newer technology and a few things are faster. However, I just like the Volari because I've never seen that brand... hehe.

But, as others have said, drivers for say nvidia or even ATI would be much easier to get.

I just got him an mx4000 for now, I'm gonna give him my brother's FX5500 after my brother upgrades his comp.
