 how could any company make a mistake like this? at least they gave a refund. i just wonder where they got that xp disk?

""I ordered a Windows XP Pro disk and was sent a "not for resale" disk that originally came with a Dell computer (it had Dell printed on the disk). Before installing I called Microsoft to check on the seriel number and was not able to install it because it had already been installed previously (meaning, I wouldn't have been able to obtain any microsoft updates for it). I contacted eDirectSoftware and requested a refund which they did honor.""

EDIT: OMG:eek: they did it a while earlier!!

"Be Aware!!!! I purchased a Windows XP program from esoftware and they sent a reinstallation CD from Dell. The software was not the holligram CD they claimed it to be."

Wow, at $67 for a full version, I know where my next copy is coming from. I notice it's an HP or Dell OEM... no matter. I only need the key, since I slipstream.

The XP Pro is at a good price, too.

Slipstreaming is the process of incorporating the Service Packs (I figured out how to do hotfixes, too) into the Windows installation CD.

ok, but you can get newer versions of windows with sp2 already incorporated.

True, for $10 more. Or, I could blow $0.17 on a CD-R and have SP2, all subsequent hotfixes, and a fully customized install (via answer file).

Well, how do you think I got them for incorporatinon into the disc?

Installing from the intarweb is all well and fine... if you have a high-speed connection. Trying to do so on a dialup is a donkey of a different flavor. Not to mention the fact that one has a largely unprotected computer connected to the net, which is just begging to be attacked and infected with who knows what.

good point. ever since i got highspeed, i have forgotten what dial-up is like.:P

Well for one....Are you looking for dull install of XP or an upgrade disk?[A upgrade disk will do a fukll install, you just have to insert a windows 200, 98, or 95 CD in during installation for just a minite to proof you once owned one.

Alrigfht already bought it.... any insight towards me buying microsoft office?? Is it worth the money or not??

Only you can say for sure... if you use Office at work and take work home with you, then perhaps it's something you might want to have. If you just need an office suite, then you might consider Open Office, an open source suite that is pretty compatible with Microsfot Office (in other words, you can open, edit and save MS Office files with OO).

Naa,With dial up you dont get so much spyware and stuff, I had dial up for a while, and then i switched to cable and left the PC for a few hours and cameback and had like a milloin things downloaded, I prabaaly got a few downlaoders installed on my machine when i had dial up, and then could just never finish on the connection, then once i got cable they all downloaded...and quickly...
