Checking Verizon DSL

We are going to get verizon 3.0mbps high speed internet tomorrow. Charter is double the price of verizon, ($30 versus $60), and I probably won't notice the extra mb's. Verizon also includes the modem.

I was wondering, while gaming with games like cod4 online, will I ever lag? What would my ping be for a random server?

Also, people never get the full listed speed when downloading. If I'm downloading a file, the maximum kilobytes per second I could get would be 375. (3,000/8). What would the "Actual" amount I would get be?
 
Charter is double?? Wow my moms bf pays $40 for a 5mb line and basic tv. For another $5 a month you can upgrade to 10mb. So your getting riped off either way!! Wow
 
I was asking if dsl is good/reliable for gaming. Charter is 60 a month alone for 5mbps. Verizon is 30 a month for 3mbps, plus we can get a free wireless modem. Will 3mbps be lag free?
 
I am sure 3mb will be lag free but, not the greatest for downloading. Why is it so expensive in your area? You need to talk to both companies more in hopes of getting a better deal b/c those prices are rediculous!!
 
I have 3Mbps Verizon DSL and on most downloads I probably average 250kb/s. As for gaming, my ping usually stays around 80 but I don't lag.
 
80 is not a high ping.. well we ordered the 3.0mbps power plan, it is the second fastest in our area, and sad to say, verizon said to the question "when will fios be available here", "never"

Are you liking the 3Mbps package so far? I've nearly been hitting my full 3Mbps on all my downloads today, and this is the first time in a while!
 
Ok, we got the package. We need "filters" for the meter outside our house, all of our phones, our wall phone, and our fax. We need at least 4 more filters for it to work, and it is way too confusing for "easy installation package." We will have to have step-by-step installation help, because my room has an empty phone jack, and we don't know what filter to use, and the directions do not say what to do in that situation. I hope we get it working by tomorrow.
 
Hey! We got the dsl installed and I get 2.7mbps on wifi! No lag on cod, I can even play lag-free on russian servers! It was horrible to install, but it's worth it. :)
 
I just checked both my laptop wifi connecton, and desktop connection, and they are the same. I thought wifi was slower than a regular cable connection.
