Chess Game

You could go buy one for like $5, just check in the jewel case section of the computer games, whereever you go to buy them.
 
I play on a program called babaschess and on a server called freechess.org, first register at the server and install the program then ull be playing free online chess with ratings in no time. alternatively goto yahoo's site that has a mediocre java chess online.

for offline chess, chessmaster series and fritz are both good.
 
Online chess sometimes can be unfare. Some players may use chess-playing-programs to decide their moves. I've tried it :)

That's why online chess games are mainly blitz 3 0 timing or faster. It is pointless to use an engine to help you; since there is noticeable delay during the opening and computers just don't play like humans, also 3 0 is fast enough so that it doesn't encourage cheating. Also with a dedicated program features such as timeseal, in game chat and mods, and ability to store games and ratings there is no reason not to play online chess.

Offline chess is boring since most chess engines are too difficult and you don't get the human element you get in online games.
