chiseled in stone?

I noticed a few motherboards are very picky about their memory and I was wondering is that set in stone? I'd like to test run the corsair xmas series but it seem the intel boards arn't compatible with it. Is there anyway possiblity that in the near future they'll support the xmas rams? Perhaps a upgraded bios or whatnot. Is it possible? or should I just look into a different board?

It is possible. If they write a BIOS update or something like that. But I wouldn't rely on that,I would just look for another m/b.

Corsair XMS memory is one of the safest routes to go with, as most motherboards are compatible with it. Also, another thing to remember is that even though early on Core 2 compatible motherboards were finicky with RAM compatibility, now most have gone through enough BIOS revisions that it is not a problem.

Does anyone know if they update the ram compatiblity list for intel mobo's or would I have to look through the bios updates? the reason why is becuase one intel mobo's comaptiblity list doesnt include the xmas series, and gigabyte does include the xmas series but only mcx2 or something like that. The ram price and latancy for the compatible rams are 5-5-5-whatever and usually a lot more expensive. The twaine models for xmas2 series seems to have less cas and cheaper, with a lot more rebates :)

Most 965 motherboards, as well as some others, need JEDEC compliant memory in order to work, basically they may not work with non-JEDEC memory if it uses more then 1.8v stock.
