chkdsk errors in dos

So I'm running chkdsk in DOS, right? And it tells me that I've got errors. Because it can't do anything with them because it's being used by another program, it asked me if I want to run chkdsk at startup. And I say, "Yeah, I'm down with that", because that's how I talk to my computer, because I don't know machine or assembly language. But after I do that, I run chkdsk again, and it still shows errors.

And, for what it's worth, each time it gets to stage 2 (you know, verifying indexes), it has been deleting index entries (different ones both times).

I've been thinking that this has something to do with a failure to install a program (see HP Software Installation Problem under Computer Accessories, if you're bored), but I don't know exactly what to do about these errors once they've been found.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

P.S. I'm running chkdsk for a third time as we speak.

Okay, I downloaded the diagnostic utility for my hard drive. After I tried to repair sectors on the hard drive, it said, "Error was detected while repairing bad sectors." Does that mean I need to start looking at another computer? Thanks.
