Choosing a graphics card.

I need a new card for my new system.
I can only play at 1024x768 resolution @ 75hz. (Very Crippled 15" IBM LCD)
I plan to play left 4 dead, counter strike source, command and conquer 3, red alert 3 and some older games. I was thinking somewhere along the lines of a 9400gt or 9500gt, or radeon equivalent. The most important thing is price. Lower the better. I can get a 9400gt for $70 AU.
I currently have an Ati Radeon X1650 Pro 512mb AGP 4x 128-bit.

No, that 4350 will not be enough to run that game well. You need atleast a 4650. I second bomberboysk, in the 4650/4670 choice, they are great cards, and YES you can run them on a Dell 300watt psu, becuase they are decent quality, not the best but they are good. You should have no problems installing a 4670 on a psu w/ 22amps. the max output for the 4670 is 65watts or so, and it idles at sub 30watts. So it is effecient. Turst me, you won't be disapointed, with the 4670, you can MAX out left for dead, and long with anyother game, besides cyris of course:rolleyes:, and get 40+ FPS.

EDIT: What kind of PSU you running?

Well, the 4650 itself draws around 4A, so if its a decent 300W you should be -ok-, if its a cheaper china brand psu i wouldnt trust it though...

its a Seasonic. Micro ATX. 20+4 mobo connection. no pci-e connection. no matter though, can always get molex to pci-e. Maybe i will buy a new psu with pci-e and more than 22 amps. should i?

quick question: will a 185 watt psu with 10 amps on 12v be able to run my old system (P4, dvd burner, 768mb ram, radeon x1650 pro agp)? I'm guessing it won't.

hmm... no decent 4350/4650/4670 cards on ebay. all overpriced or using 64 bit memory. =|
there are many 9400gt's for good prices, i may just go with one of those. only 128-bit memory though.
whats the 9400gt compared to the 8800gt and 9600gt?

anybody seen a 9400gt for less than $80 australian anywhere? I'm looking for some real price killings. :gun:

Can't find any Austrailian shopping sites.. Not one at all, strange. As before mentioned, make sure to put a good power supply in with that. No use putting in a great card to game with if your computer can't juice it.
Also, what processor do you have/planning on getting? Another thing to make sure of is you avoid bottlenecking.

I play Red Alert 3 on my old video card, a Nvidia Geforce 7300 GS. I run the game just fine, but my settings all have to be very low. So i presume anything really in the 9xxx or 8xxxx will suit you. If I find an Austrailian website I'll post more

Do you have an MSY around? They seem to be one of the more popular brick&mortars. Online two popular ones seem to be centercom and pccasegear.

9400gt :

4650 is more powerful and can also be had under $80:

I'm planning to use the best processor my mobo can support, and at this point its looking like a Pentium D. :(
