choosing a graphics card

Hi, i need some help choosing a good or as good as you can get for £55 GBP graphics card, i've had a look around but i'm a bit confused (i've read the graphics card 101). I would appreciate it if some one could give me some suggestions from:

At the moment the 7600GT is the sweet spot, it has the best price to performance ratio. It also overclocks really well too. The GS has one quad pipeline and one vertex processor disabled when compared to the GT.
 
I can't really afford the 7600GT its a bit over my budget as £55 was really the maximum highest I wanted to go. Is there really that much of a performance difference betweeb the GT and the GS? With the 7600GS that I've chosen will I be able to play most of the recent games that have come out on a reasonable setting? Most of the games I do play are not actaully that graphic intensive eg. heroes of might and magic v, but I do still want the option of being able to play more graphic intensive games comfortably.

The system i'm going to use the graphics card on is still being planned:

Processor -- intel Pentium D 915
Motherboard -- Abit AB9
RAM -- Geil value RAM 1GB ddr2 800mhz
 
Well the 7600GS is enough for older generation games but it will struggle with current generation ones, like fear even at low resolutions and low detail settings.
 
If you look at the F.E.A.R. minimum system requirements(below) surely i should be able to run it fairly smoothly? I'm no too bothered about running everything on high settings, just as long as it plays comfortably and looks half decent.

Intel or AMD class 1.7 GHz or equivelant CPU.

512MB of RAM

64MB DirectX 8 class ATi or nVidia graphics card

Monitor that can display in 4:3 aspect ratio

5.0GB free hard disk drive space, and an additional page swap file and saved game files.

4x CD-ROM, DVD-ROM drive for Special Director's Edition.

16-bit DirectX 9 compliant sound card with support for EAX 2.0

Broadband or LAN internet connection for multiplayer.

Mouse.

Keyboard.
 
I wouldn't buy from Microdirect, I've had faulty RAM from them in the past and they aren't that helpfull.

They're really good!

I take it you have a PCI-e slot, You can get an X850 Pro, I have the AGP version and it's better than most PCI-e cards and I can play FEAR and Oblivion on High settings. :)
 
The X850 is NOT in his price range, check his original message man. I dont think you can get a second hand X850 for 55 pounds.
 
I bought mine for £130 about a year ago, I'm sure Ebay or somewhere similair would have it for around that price, considering it's been used and it's over a year old.

Thats not true

7600GS should run FEAR on medium or even on high settings without any struggle.

Koronowski - I've bought from microdirect many times and so have other memebers of my family and we have not once had a problem. One of the main reasons I like buying from microdirect is because I live within about 30mins of it so if something does go wrong I can just drive down there and talk to someone in person. Thanks for the link to novateach.

You keep going downhill! lol if you don't plan on playing new games at respectable levels then yes the 7300gs is ok. Though in my opinion the 7600gs is much better.. your decision though. :)
