or maybe you would recommend something better in the $ 500-700 price range (we are in the USA). The purpose of the laptop: web surfing, media use (watching videos), some intermediate at most photo editing.

Thank you!

Out of those, I would go with the Sony. HP consumer laptops have a horrible reputation for poor build quality and faults, especially over an extended period of time.

going soley by the specs... id say the HP as it shows it does a bit more than the Sony Vaio in terms of performance, but as Ethan3.14159 says, HP's have a bad reputation as a laptop brand. They crap themselves alot and so now contradicting myself id say the Vaio. If your looking for reliability and durability; go the Vaio, if your looking for a quick fix until you buy a new laptop or whatever, go the HP... hope that helps in some way or another :D

just like they said, i would reccommend the VAIO. we have a few hp laptops, printers, and desktops, and they do break very easily. i would avoid hp in general.

I have an HP Pavillion, got it about 4 years ago. Honestly, its a great computer but I've had to replace the screen, wipe it out and add memory multiple times. I use the computer for school, so it gets its fair share of wear. Don't know anything about Sony comps though.

Hi Dolce,

What will your husband be using his laptop for? Since both of the laptops you presented have larger screens and multi-media capabilities, will he be using his laptop to watch DVDs? The Sony also has advanced webcam features, so if he spends a lot of time chatting online with a webcam, that may be a great laptop for him. Many of the basic specs, such as RAM and battery life are similar so the biggest differences will be in the extra features. Another laptop you might want to look at is the Acer Aspire AS7740-5691. It also has excellent multi-media capabilites (and an extra-large screen) if that is something that is important to you. Check out the full specs here: http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/pc...spx?pcid=bbc72ad7-ed1f-df11-b9f9-02bf9d3bf32a.

I hope this is helpful. Let me know if I can help in any other way.
