Choosing the right cpu! [first time]

Q6600 ftw. Upgrading to it sometime around christmas :D Q9550 is a bit exspencive and the price will probably drop. So either get the E8500 or the Q6600
 
First tell us what motherboard you have...that makes a difference what processor you should get.

Then tell us you budget...the more money you have the better processor you should get.

What do you do with your computer?
 
Depends on what you want to use your computer for...

Price-wise, the Q6600 is an awesome deal for a quad. Overclocks well, is more future-proof than the dual.

Out of the three, the 8600 would be the best for today's games (no promises for the future, though).

The Q9550 is a bit pricey, but if you're set on getting it, wait until the Nehalems come out and drop the price.
