Chrome - Hacked

Hello there,

I was recently told there is a hacked version of google chrome out there in internet land. One that doesn't allow Google access to all the sites you've visited etc. Could anyone direct me to the the appropriate location of download. Any help at all will be much appreciated, thanks :)

I haven't heard of a "hacked" version of Google Chrome. If you don't wish for your browser to save your browser history, simply open an incognito window - from techie-buzz.com
Opening a private or incognito session in Google Chrome is quite easy, you can either use the shortcut key Ctrl + Shift + N or choose the Open New incognito window from the menu.

The new window that opens up will not store any data to the search and browsing history.

That would work wouldn't it?

Or, you could just quit surfing pr0n on your mom's computer.;):P

The idea wasn't that my computer wouldn't know my history, but that Google wouldn't know my history. Some people don't like how Google record all web activities and assign them to a wee account labelled with your IP address. And thus, the hacked chrome was born. But thank you very much for your time and all :)

I'm pretty sure that all of that can be blocked just by not agreeing to share statistics with Google. Here are a couple of pages relating to Google's privacy policy and practices:
http://www.google.com/chrome/intl/en/privacy.html
http://www.google.com/intl/en/privacy.html

What are you worried about? If you don't want Google to know where you've been, then I guess you could just use a proxy, or even another browser - I don't feel like Chrome really has an edge on Firefox or Opera anyway.

Just completely ditch Chrome and use firefox.

Firefox is half the speed of chrome and is getting worse with every update. I just read an article about how bad Firefox has been lately.

@OP why does it matter that Google can see where you have been. Its not like they check everybody's records just to see what you have been doing.

It isn't a "hacked" version, it's the open source version. Google Chrome is Google's custom version of it's open source Chromium Browser.

Chromium Web Browser - Official Site

From Wikipedia:
Differences between Chromium and Google Chrome

Chromium is the name given to the open source project and the browser source code released and maintained at www.chromium.org.[13] One can install the latest snapshots for Windows or download the source code and build it in Windows, Linux or Mac. Google takes this source code and adds on the Google name and logo, an auto-updater system called GoogleUpdate, an opt-in option for users to send Google their usage statistics and crash reports as well as RLZ-tracking which transmits information in encoded form to Google, for example, when and where Chrome has been downloaded.

It's not that easy to find a download spot but here's one on Softpedia: Softpedia - Chromium. I'll see if I can find a better link. There's also the latest snapshots here, but they may be unstable.

There are some other browsers based on Chromium that emphasize privacy features; that may be what you are referring to. By the way, Google collects a lot of information about you every time you use it's search engine regardless of which browser you use. (Although all search engines tend to do that.)

(When I first saw the title of this thread, I thought it was about someone hacking the Google Chrome Browser.)
