I hope someone can help as I am as green as the hills!!!
I am looking to upgrade my advent 8738 with some new memory.
At present it has only 1 128mb module but has 3 slots with maximum memory of 768mb ie 3x 256mb.
the spec of the current module is:
Module Size: 128MB
Package: 168-pin DIMM
Feature: SDRAM, PC133
Configuration: 16Meg x 64
DIMM Type:
Error Checking: Non-parity
Speed: 133
SDRAM Timings: CL=2
Specs: SDRAM, PC133 • CL=2 • Unbuffered • Non-parity • 133MHz • 3.3V • 16Meg x 64
I have gathered that it is better to have 3 identical modules?????? and if that is the case rather than try and match the one present have come to the conclusion to replace it with 3 new matching modules of a different type, ie probably 3x kingston 256mb, if possible?
HOWEVER I am not sure which of the spec depends on the motherboard it is on and as Advent has given up on its website cannot find out.
I have found a supplier with simialer 168pin dimms however the timing is cl3 rather than cl2. I am not sure if that is a problem and neither is he!
Can some one please tell me looking at the spec above which bits of the specification need to be identical to that spec and which do not matter if the 3 new modules are matching.
Hope that all makes sense,
and thanks in advance for any help you can give,
regards,
Paul
