Classic vs Xp theme

Is it realy true that using the "Windows classic" theme on your desktop can be less memory consuming?

If so how much more memory does the stardard Xp theme use?

Im currently using the Classic one but i notice no performance differance if i use the Xp theme?

It saves some performance. It mainly helps older machines that are near the minimum requirements for XP

I can't stand the look of the Sesame Street interface, so I have always used Classic. I tried the XP UI, and my machine bogged down really badly, more than likely because I have my graphics shared with my RAM.

If your in the US ill mail you a ATI Rage card, i have 6 of them :P

They all use the same open GL render engine, so performance between built in themes is probably very minimal

I haven't figured out if I really "need" more than integrated graphics. I'm not really a gamer; most of the time I do 2D work (surfing, forums, apps like Nero, etc); the toughest thing I do graphically is watch DVDs and edit images. But thanks for that most generous offer!!

still, its nice to have something that doesnt rob your RAM

Win. 2000 takes forever 2 start-up!!, thats 1 con with 2000, other than that it's a great OS..

instead of waiting 3 min. 4 windows 2 start-up, i put my computer in stand-by takes about 30 sec...

I think its something like 70% of people use silver, 20 use blue and 10 use green. (My old biology teacher is the only person I know who likes the green). I myself use silver (my whole family started with blue, but once they saw mine they changed  ).

This offer still open? :P

One of the few goals of vista was to implement an OS install on average of 15 minutes, and boot times on average of 20 seconds or less.

Not quite sure if they are going to meet those goals

It actually sped up my old P4 1.3ghz 128mb ram Dell quite alot when I disabled all the fancy stuff XP came with. But now it looks really bad.

This isn't just OS-dependent! I had my 80GB WD hard drive as Master and XP booted up in like 40 seconds. I switched to have my 20GB Maxtor as Master and now my bootup time is 55-60 seconds. But 20 seconds?? Can a disc-based HD really do this, or are they talking about one of those RAM-based HDs?

I have everything turned off except the normal color. It runs faster for me that way, although I only have 256 ram at the moment.

If there is a problem, or you had the hard disk daisy chained to an ata optical drive, which slows down the whole IDE chain.

Those are the goals of what they are shooting for with a system that has the minimum requirements for vista. I am pretty sure its not going to happen.

Some of my macs boot into OS X in under 20 seconds...seriously. I have built a few windows rigs that boot up win xp pro in under 20 seconds. Of course there were high end with striped drives, but it was smoking fast.

They want that to happen on average systems. Their installer is a piece of junk and needs a total overhaul. But this is getting way off topic at this point.

If you have a decent video card a lot of that 3d desktop stuff should be taken care by the card, and not the CPU.
