Clean Install Noobie

I would like to purchase Windows 8 and completely remove any and all data existing on my drive. I know this can be done relatively easy but I do have some questions.

1) When it comes the hard drive partitions I don't really know much. In order to completely remove all hard drive files, will I need to re-partition my hard drive? How do I do this?

2) I currently run windows 7 home premium. Will I be able to purchase the windows 8 software and do a clean install, removing all current data, by simply inserting the discs and following the instructions?

3) I have a 500 GB external SS hard drive. Would it be possible to completely circumvent the internal mechanical hard drive and only use the external SS?

Systems Specs:

i3 CPU quad core 550 @ 3.2 GHz
4 GB Rm (not sure what type)
NVIDIA GeForce GT240
Windows 7 64 bit

My current internal hard drive is 8 years old, and half full of junk.

System start-up is painfully slow at this point. I have run all of the registry cleaners, malware, spyware, virus software I kind find and this does not improve boot time.

If your hard drive is 8 years old, I would invest in a new faster one.

You can boot to the windows 8 install dvd and delete existing partitions and then install windows 8.
