Clear plastic sheets to provide as splash shields for LCD monitor?

Hello,

I'm looking for a completely clear plastic sheet the size of a 24" LCD monitor, or bigger, that I can use to tape to the top of my 24" LCD, and flip back, or forward, over the screen, for when I eat while at my computer. (and no, I won't stop eating at my computer :P ) It's actually a very difficult thing to find. I've been to common stores, as well as Home Depot, Office Depot, other home improvement places, office stores, art stores, and still couldn't find something like this. I'd buy them with quantity, so I can switch it when one gets too spotty.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Geeze dude... You must be a messy eater :P

An alternative that might be easier to find(if you want something ridged) would be one of these privacy shields. I assume you could find one that's 24", though it may be much more than you wish to pay.

Are you referring to plexiglass? The main problem with non pc type plastic sheeting or some shields is a possible discoloration after a period of time. Plus text reading can become more difficult unless you go for some magnification since the view becomes obscure to some degree.

The type of protectors like those at the link there are specific for monitors. There's even ones for cell phone and Ipod as well as pocket game displays. You want something that won't discolor from the small amount of heat an lcd still sees plus dust, dirt, food?, abd easy to clean as well as protective. A sheet can torn or pull off when you go to clean it plus the adhesive buildup from tape? what a mess!

I'm not sure of the clearness of the 'clear' plastic sheeting rolls at that construction site, as mine needs to be clear enough to see through to a computer screen.. As for the NuShield, just one costs $30, whereas I'm looking for something in higher quantities, so I can replace one when it gets too messy, and I don't need it to stick, as I'm only going to flip it down over the screen during meals.

Yeah, I searched for a privacy screen, but they're way too expensive at the 24" size.

Discoloration or problems reading text, after a period of time, or heat, shouldn't be a problem, as I'm only going to flip it down during meals.

My monitor came with a 'Welcome to Acer!' plastic sheet held over the monitor that would be perfect if it didn't have a lot of text over it! Acer told me they don't sell those, though..

One other option to consider in that case since you want something to cover it for a brief period of time only would be a regular lcd type monitor cover. At first it sounded like you wanted something more permanent.

On that idea some covers allow you to still continue vewing while keeping dust and debris off the surface. These can be taken right off for cleaning as well. Have a look at http://www.computerdust.com/computer_monitor_covers.html?OVRAW=lcd%20monitor%20covers&OVKEY=lcd%20monitor%20cover&OVMTC=standard&OVADID=3533939522&OVKWID=31901244522

The 'regular LCD type monitor cover' sounds perfect, but I couldn't find any. Would you happen to know an online or offline store where I can purchase those?

The computerdust.com ones look to take a little longer to pull over the entire monitor than the flip up/down method I'd like, but it's a possibility, if I can't just find 24" sheets.

Thank you

You can specify dimensions at the vendor seen there for $21.95. Look down on the right column to see that and the price there. That brand is the anti static type material over any simply sheet of clear plastic to consider as well. Plus those are regular see through covers.

You won't get zzzapped by esd static when going to pull it off! Just a thought on that one. But you can also shop around for a different style made with the same material.

OHP (over head projector) transparencies?? only a few dollars from a newsagency, get a pack of 10 or 50whatever they come in.

sorry didnt read....my bad....i suggest not to throw your food at it when it doesnt do what you want......hehehe.

Gee? I can have my dinner while sitting at the desk here and never see food on the screen. :P But I like the idea of the protective coating since some little fingers like throwing things around here on occasion. kaboom! my lcd! "he did it! no he did it no it was him that did it no it was..... " excuses! :P

Find a friend who just recently bought a Dell, HP, Gateway, etc. Steal theres. They always come with that protective sheet over their monitors and 99% of the time, they just throw them away.

Their garbage is your treasure!

Once you pull those off they won't stick to the surface afterwards. There's only a very light adhesive used just to see those stay on long enough to ship them out to whoever and arrive with a dust free/spot free screen. The other methods described earlier are for adding adiitional protection and designed for that purpose.
