I want to clean out unneeded files from my HP compaq desktop. There is temp folder that uses 54 GB...

C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Local Settings\Temp

Is this safe to delete? All of the files say something like

Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0-KB974417_20100522_082722656.html or
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0-KB974417_20100522_082722656-Msi0.txt

Download and run Ccleaner as it will delete a bunch of temp files not needed and speed up your system.

I gave ccleaner a shot but it didn't touch those files. Those files go all the way back to when I first bought the computer until now. I'm sure there is no way I need 54gb of Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0-KB974417_20100522_082722656.html or Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0-KB974417_20100522_082722656-Msi0.txt

Net framework is needed to run certain programs, you can delete them, but if the program needs them then there may be an issue. I know the ati catalyst software for video cards requires it to be installed.

ROFL 54 GB of Microsoft .NET framework 2.0??????!!!!!!!!!!

Wow...that is too damn much lol!!!I am a computer programmer in .NET and I can assure you that it should NOT take that much.

Anyway...(wow I am still impressed ^^ ) do the following:

-move ALL the files from that folder to some other location just as a precaution...
-restart your computer
-if after the restart some of your programs do not work, that is probably because the need .NET 2.0 in order to work.So download .NET framework 2.0 from the Microsoft WEB site which is ONLY 22 MB in size (and not 54 GB rofl) and install it.After the installation is done, restart the computer...
-if now after the restart everything works in order, feel finally free to delete those 54 GB of data...

Man.....54 GB of .NET 2.0...how the hell did you do that lmao xD It's like you installed 1000 service packs for .NET 2.0 xD xD xD!!!
