Click, then beep hard drive.

Hello all! I am having an issue with my Dell Latitude E6420.

What happens is that after a while of the laptop being on, the hard drive makes a clicking noise, and then it beeps.

This happens when I am browsing, or playing games, or downloading things.

I was wondering if it was time to buy a new hard drive, or if it can be fixed. I have no idea what hard drive this laptop uses, nor how to check.

Usually when a hard drive does that it means it's on its way out. You can run HDTune and check the drive. If you have corrupt data I have used HDD Regenerator to help get my data back. Multiple passes might be needed. HDTune will also tell you what type of drive and manufacture. So if the manufacture is Seagate you could download Seatools and check the drive further. The drive is more than likely a SATA and you could buy a SSD.

Not sure if you live in the U.S. Do some comparison shopping on Newegg, Amazon or use PCpartpicker to find a HDD.

Forgot to mention. It's not recommend, but unless you already have a clone you could clone your current drive using a SATA to USB adapter and the program AOEMI Backuper. Chose the alignment method in the options if you clone to a new SSD.

You don't need a Drive checker program to diagnose a clicking Drive; it's not a data/sector issue, it's a mechanical one.

OP, just buy a new Drive. Like now. The longer/more use that Drive has, the higher the chance it's going to just stop working entirely, taking your data with it. Backup absolute essential files before trying to clone it to another one.
