Clockwise or anticlockwise?

Ok. im confused about which way fans blow and suck (and which one they should be doing where in the computer). i was thinking of sticking a fan on the case above the cpu to try and cool it down. i want to know which way to put it and what my cpu is doing (sucking or blowing)? i have an AMD Athlon 6000+ @ 3GHz. im using the stock heatsink and fan. i also put in a fan into the case at the back. im not sure if it is doing the right thing. if i know which was is what i can check what way they r moving next time i switch it on and off.

also will it make much difference if i add another fan?

thanks for the reply.

In this picture the fan would be pushing air to the other side and sucking it in from the side you see.

In this one air would be pushed at you if you were to look @ the fan on this side.

Also case cooling will help but getting a after market cooler is a better solution.

thank you so much for your reply. i have been searching everywhere for an explanation as clear as that. thanx. so if ur looking at a fan and it is spinning clockwise its pushing toward you and if its going anticlockwise it is sucking from you. i will check which way mine spins when i turn it off in a sec just after i am posting then will reply again. also with the stock cpu fan how fast can i go without stressing it too much. sometimes when gaming it can go up to 4000rpm and i can hear it. then it settles down. also what should be happeneing in my cpu and case fans as to whether they should be blowing from outside or sucking.

i will check now and report back

thanks

No problem.

Well I can't help you with stock advice...I never use stock...due to the temps in my room during the summer + the fact I overclock I always go aftermarket I haven't used stock in 4 years now.

4000RPM seems awfully fast though...my Xigmatek cooler keeps my quad @ 3.2ghz @ 45c @ 1200RPM at 100% load and 29-30c idle.

I currently have 4 fans....I use front 2 to blow air in and I have the back 2 blow air out. I also have a side fan that I have blow air out...though I might switch that around since it will blow on my cooler then ^-^

wow really. i just did a little test. i had it running nothing but msn, and firefox and the fan is now running at 2800rpm - 3100rpm. i used gigabyte i-Cool and it sped up to 4000rpm for a milisecond then down to about 1.9. after i closed it it immediately shot up to 2500rpm. im not sure that using i-cool is safe as i allready have cool n' quiet enabled in the bios. and the difference in speed is a lot so im not sure if it may overhead using i-Cool.

i opened my side of my case and the temps droped about 200rpm but soon came up again. this is a new computer only a couple of months old.

currently i have (have i said this allready?), a cpu fan (ofcourse) and only one other case fan on the back.

im thinking of putting a fan on the side of the case (i have the holes and all). will help and if so should i have it blowing onto the cpu or sucking from the cpu?

and the other thing that is bothering me is the fan speed. is it too high for the stock and is there a way to find out maximums? i will look on amd's site and see if i can find out.

also my temps ATM are
42 - mobo
38 - cpu
41 - core 1
39 - core 2
41 - HDD
and 2700rpm (has settled down a little)

thank you very much for your help. u have been a great help. i will shortly (i know i said it before) turn off my computer and see the direction of the fans.

thanx

EDIT

I found this source saying his ran over 5000rpm. it is located here
http://groups.google.com/group/comp.os.linux.advocacy/browse_thread/thread/1221f5c1f844d837

Quoted from the site:

I could have selected "Maximum used CPU power" as limiting constraint, but
instead I fixed the CPU frequency at 3.0 GHz, where upon when the heat is
on, the CPU cooler raises it RPM from 3000 rpm to 5113 RPM as it should be.

im not sure if he is talking about the same situation or if this means that my rpm is allright.

thanx and soz for keep asking so much!

OK im posting again for convinience so u can see the info cause is too clutered not interested in getting extra posts. i found another site that said this:

I've seen mine go as high as 6026 RPM's when my room was really hot and under a full load cooling my 6000+ @3.2 to 56/53C. Then today it's keeping the temps at 55/51C spinning 3000-3200 RPM's with stock 3.0 settings....

I read up that the fan has a temp sensor in it and increases RPM speed based off the air flowing in the case, good idea but I don't know, thought I would share."

the site is here: http://www.overclock.net/amd-cpus/245327-amd-athlon-64-x2-6000-club-83.html

reading this it seems this fan can rev up alot so many i shouldnt be worrying too much. also do u know of any decently priced aftermarket coolers? i dont want to spend too much money on it but want my pc cool and stable.

thanx again.
