Cloning Software?

Not sure which section but anyway...

Because installing Vista and all the drivers takes so long I was wondering, is there a free program that allows me to create a bootable DVD that I can re-install my system without having to go through all of the drivers?

If you use Ghost or Clone your just getting a copy of the drive as is , nothing like a fresh install. If you want to do a fresh install with drivers just Slipstream it with updates and drivers, makes it alot eaiser.

That's why you do it after your drivers and fresh install...;)

So you want him to reinstall and reinstall all of his drivers then make a Ghost of the drive, in other words what he was not wanting to do? You can just slipstream your drivers-pin number-updates- all to your CD and do it on the first install, have a copy to use later anytime he wants to reinstall. Instead of reinstalling everything again just to Ghost it.

Yeah i was gonna say that, i rmember when i had to slipstrem drivers on my Xp cd.. thx to you, lol, i'd probably do the same with a vista installation when it's time

I,ve got to where I keep all my CDs updated, just use a RW that way you dont waste a CD/DVD everytime you want to update it.

No that's why you do it the first time you install the OS + Drivers...Durr!

then it takes only a very short time to revert back to the same as a fresh install plus drivers. rather then having to install completely again which takes much longer.

Intel was this his first time, no! (he was wanting to reinstall) without having to update all his drivers again. What dont you get or is somebody rubbing off on you?

Excuse me for stating an alternate way... Jesus H. Christ, you friggin' communist, if it's not your way it's not your definition of "correct".

Considering I havent called you anything and just suggested a way of doing it without having to reinstall again like you would have him do. Dont get your peach fuzz fluffed up!

Well I am not the one putting down on the alternate way now am I? Peach fuzz? Puhleeeaze, just because I have argued for my opinion and beliefs with the minor population of the forum doesn't mix me in with them.

Other than that being rambling nonsence, I dont care who your with or not, meaningless to me? Get out of the floor and stop screaming and kicking your feet. I can tell when your upset you need some growing up to do.

You knew good and well what I was talking about... You're just trying to justify a way to make your methods look better. Which it probably is, if you didn't do it after the full install... And mine's quicker after the first install ;)

Damn, you guys need to settle down. This isn't that complicated.

Option 1 - slipstreaming
- includes drivers while installing Windows
- useful if you rarely install Windows
- takes the normal amount of time to install

Option 2 - "ghosting"
- includes a fresh OS install, drivers, and whatever programs you have at the time of making the image
- useful for someone that installs the OS often or wants to revert to a past image, be it a fresh install or install with extras
- can take as little as a minute or two if using an image from a hard drive, more time for images on DVDs

Now I completely agree with you on that post but I was not trying to justify it, just pointing out that there was a way without having to reinstall everything again. really both ways could be done- Slipstream your CD- Do a fresh install without having to reinstall all your drivers- get your OS the way you want it with programs and whatever he wants- then ghost the drive- bingo you have 2 backups- one thats a fresh install method and a backup just the way you wanted the drive at one time. But unlike what Yeti said you can add alot more than just drivers Slipstreaming.

I can settle this one fast having enough time working with dual boot and repeat reinstallations of Vista and XP alike lately. Vista loves a brand new fresh partition to go onto. When copying a partition from one drive to the next and seeing a reinstall without reformat problem, prblems, problems!

After reformatting that same primary the admin account refused to load! When wiping that for a new primary dat daaaa... sucess! Vista likes to "own a drive" period while in XP you can perform a repair install if needed. You're stuck performing a clean install every time.
